The Girasol Babywearing A-Z

Squat-Spread Position (M-position)

The squat-spread position refers to the posture a newborn automatically assumes when lifted: the legs are squatted, knees at navel height, and thighs slightly splayed. This position supports the healthy development of your child's spine and hips.

Bonding

Bonding is about consistently responding to your newborn's needs with love, warmth, and care. When you do this, you become a special, trustworthy person in your baby's life.

The bond between you and your newborn is an important part of development.

When your newborn receives what they need from you, like a smile, a touch, or a cuddle, your newborn feels that the world is a safe place to play, learn, and explore. This lays the foundation for your child's development and well-being throughout childhood.

Bonding also helps your baby grow mentally and physically. For example, repeated human contact such as touching, cuddling, talking, singing, and looking into each other's eyes, releases hormones in the brain. These hormones help the brain grow. And as the brain grows, your baby begins to develop memory, thinking, and language.

Cover

The cover is indispensable in the coming months. It protects your child from cold and wetness.

Children under one year old should be carried under the cover or a jacket as they cannot yet regulate their temperature.

But there is also room for older children under the cover.

Double Hammock

The Double Hammock is a back carry with a wrap. You usually need your Base Size +1 for this.

Depending on your child's development, this carry is suitable from the sitting age.

The fabric passes over the chest, optimally distributing the weight. Therefore, this carry is popular when carrying older children.

Broken in

Depending on the fabric the baby wrap is woven from, it needs to be broken in more or less to become cuddly. This also happens through washing, as the fibers swell then.

Finish

The finish is a concluding variation worn across the chest or in the abdominal area of the wearer with a wrap or a wrap conversion while the child is carried on the back.

Woven Baby Wrap

Fabric characterized by diagonal elasticity, produced on a loom or by hand using a special weaving process. Popular weaving techniques include Jacquard, cross twill, or diamond twill.

All our products are hand-woven under fair working conditions.

Halfbuckle

A Halfbuckle is a baby carrier where the hip belt is closed with a buckle (half-buckle carrier).

The shoulder straps are tied.

Our model would be the MySol® with buckles.

The person carrying is looking for a very specific baby wrap.

Jacquard Weave

With the satin weave as a base, many different patterns can be woven into a Jacquard weave.

On the reverse side of the fabric, the pattern then appears in a reversed color gradient.

Head Kiss Height

When you carry your child in a baby wrap or carrier, it should ideally be at head kiss height. This means that you can easily give your child a kiss on the head. At this height, your back is also protected, as your child's weight is optimally distributed. Also, make sure your child does not sink into the carrier or wrap. Mouth and nose should always be clear!

Limited Products

Did you know that you have the option to design products?

You can design your own wraps, ring slings, or carriers.

You can choose your colors from 46 options. Solid or striped patterns are possible. You can choose the weaving style. Cross twill weave is standard. Diamond, herringbone, or honeycomb are also possible, as well as a double weft thread for particularly strong wraps.

The minimum order quantity is 114m, from which you can then have your desired products (Mysol, baby wrap, doll carrier...) made.

Especially interesting for retailers, babywearing schools, Facebook groups, etc.

Mei Tai

The Mei Tai is a traditional baby carrier from East Asia.

It consists of a square piece of fabric with four attached straps. Here in Germany, Mei Tais are usually continuously adjustable at the panel, sometimes also at the back panel.

In addition, there is the headrest, which is not sun protection!

Non-Apron

In this carrying style, the back panel starts directly at the top edge of the hip belt. This allows the full length of the back panel to be used. It runs directly around the baby's bottom.

The opposite would be Apron - a carrying style that can be used especially for very small newborns/premature babies:

Onbuhimo

It is a traditional baby carrier from Japan, without a hip belt.

It is recommended from sitting age. It is also often used when children can already walk but need a break in between.

Pregnant women like to carry in an Onbuhimo because no hip belt presses on their belly.

The child's weight rests entirely on the shoulders; the straps are often padded.

Plant Dyed

We have a collection that is dyed purely with plant-based dyes.

Two traditional Mayan techniques in one product - hand-woven & plant-dyed!

This ensures the continuation of this tradition!

Our collection is made from 100% untreated cotton, dyed only with natural colors!

All our plant dyes are also vegan 🌱 !

Quality

Our products are handmade. Hand-woven fabrics are difficult to compare with machine-made goods. Our fabrics remain intact even after years, and pilling is almost non-existent. Sustainability is very important to us, and this includes the longevity of our products.

The fabrics used are regularly tested in Germany by independent and certified institutes for harmful substances and saliva fastness.

We developed our two carriers in close cooperation with babywearing consultants, so that they are ergonomic and can be perfectly adjusted even for very small babies.

Ring Sling

A ring sling is a short baby wrap. It has two firmly sewn rings at one end.

You can use the ring sling from birth.

You can carry your child in the sling in front, on the hip, or on the back.

Even children who can already walk are happy to rest their tired legs in the ring sling.

Sling Ring

Did you know that, subject to availability, you can choose sling rings to match your sling in your desired color? This way, you'll have a wonderful unique piece for your babywearing journey.

Tandem Carrying

Tandem carrying allows for carrying twins or siblings.

There are various options for this, which also differ by region or country.

The children can be carried together in one wrap. With our MySol, for example, you can also easily carry twins, because you can put two pouches on one hip belt and then carry the twins in one pouch each.

Of course, a carrier can also be used in front and a wrap in the back. Or even two carriers.

Company

Through a trip and an extended stay in Central America, Girasol has created a network of small craft businesses, cooperatives, and independent weavers and tailors.

When purchasing, manufacturing, and distributing, we always adhere to the principles of fair trade and sustainability.

A large part of our turnover flows directly to Guatemala!

Our hand-woven baby wraps are internationally renowned. They are exclusively made for Girasol.

Our baby carriers with the patented double tunnel, the MySol and the WrapMySol, complement our range of carriers.

Spoiling

Do you constantly hear that you are spoiling your baby by carrying them?

To spoil someone means to do a favor for a person even though that person could actually take care of themselves.

And we all know that babies cannot take care of themselves, so we are not spoiling them. By carrying them, we strengthen the bond and basic trust! We give love, provide comfort, and are simply there.

Wrap Conversion

A Wrap Conversion is a Mei Tai or a Halfbuckle made from baby wrap fabric.

The shoulder straps can be spread out. This distributes the baby's weight more widely over the shoulders and across the back of the person carrying, providing great relief.

The straps of a Wrap Conversion are usually also longer than those of a Mei Tai, so the straps can, for example, also be fanned out over the child's bottom.

There are many different ways to apply the straps or create finishes.

You can find our carrier WrapMySol.

XL Sling

An XL Sling is a ring sling with a length of at least 2.20-2.40m.

You can also carry on your back with an XL Ring Sling.
